DIY Laundry Detergent

Alright so if you haven't tried THIS incredible soap from Perfectly Posh do yourself a favor and try it now.
Like...right now...I'll wait. Here's why:

1. INCREDIBLE citrus scent
2. Organic soap base
3. SLS and Phthalate free fragrance
4. Lathers well and moisturizes luxuriously
5. It's less than $10 for a HUGE bar!
6. You can make the most heavenly scented laundry detergent EVER!
How you ask? Well let me show you, it's a lot more easier than you might have thought.

You'll Need:

* 1 1/2 Cups of Borax
* 1 1/2 Cups of Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
* 1/2 Cup of Baking Soda ( not pictured..sorry, but I honestly just use store brand)
* Ninja or other chopping/grating equipment

Step One:

Take out a grater and well...grate the soap. This is the "hardest" part of the whole recipe, it can get a little tiring but the bar grates fairly well. You should end up with about 3 cups ( using a fairly large grater as pictured) I wouldn't stress if yours ends up being slightly more or less.

Step Two:

Take the shreds and put them into your Ninja or other chopping device and pulverize them until they are as close to a powder as you can get. I usually can get a pretty good almost powder quality using the ninja for a few seconds. The photo is obviously the before lol

Step Three:

Put your now freshly pulverized bar in a bowl and then in another separate bowl mix together the Borax, Washing Soda, and Baking Soda. Combine the powders thoroughly. How AMAZING does your house smell right now??

Step Four:

Combine the mixtures together and begin stirring so everything is as mixed together as it can be. Then pour it into an air-sealed container and you're DONE! woohoo! Way to go! You now have your very own batch of homemade laundry detergent. You use 2 Tablespoons per laundry load. I stick an old measuring spoon right on top of the detergent so it's right there.

Optional:
I always have some small little pieces of the soap stuck to my Ninja whenever I'm through and instead of just rinsing it down the drain I add water to the container and get loose as much of it as I can. I then add that water to another sealing container and use it as a fabric scent booster. I sometimes will also add 2-3 drops of Wild Orange essential oil to the watery mixture for even more citrus scent.
I add 1/2 cup to the rinse cycle or you can dip a towel in it and throw it in the dryer with the freshly laundered clothes.

These are the finished products:

Ps- Your house smells HEAVENLY when you use this detergent
Also if you decide to use the Wild Orange essential oil
you can use coupon code "Bubble" to save 10% off your order!

17 Amazing DIY Home Cleaning Recipes

1. Homemade Laundry Detergent by Sew Much Ado

I've made this recipe dozens of times and I love the way it makes my clothes smell and how clean it gets them! I sometimes add two or three drops of either  Lavender or Lemon essential oil while I'm grating the fels-naptha to give it an extra wonderful smell.

2. Super Shower Cleaner by Picklee

I've seen other places that say to just spray a similar mixture on the shower or bath and simply rinse, but those never worked for me. This recipe was the only one that actually said to leave it sit and boy did it work! I didn't even have to break my hand scrubbing the gunk around the bottom. Also, she has another cleaning tip for the glass doors using a lemon that I am here to tell you...works magic!

3. Reusable Peppermint Kitchen Wipes by One Good Thing By Jillee

I cannot say how much I adore these wipes! They smell amazing and it makes me feel so much better about wiping my counters down with something I know isn't filled with chemicals and is safe for my little one. Plus they're reusable, which makes them a thousand times better!

4. Polish Wood Naturally With Essential Oils by Me!

I've slowly started getting everyone I know hooked on polishing their wood naturally. Trust me on this one, you'll love the natural smell and love how great it makes your wood look! This recipe uses Wild Orange essential oil, but I've also used lemon successfully.

5. Dishwasher Detergent Tabs by One Good Thing By Jillee

I've been using this recipe for weeks, and I love my dishes. The only change I would make is that I used apple cider vinegar in the mixture and a splash of distilled white vinegar before I wash. It has made a huge difference in my dishes. Also..I've noticed that if I skip the vinegar there tends to be some residue so don't skip it people!

6. Orange All Purpose Cleaning Spray by Petit Chef

I was SO skeptical about using vinegar as a spray, I did NOT want my house to smell like a pickle factory. So on a whim I tried this recipe and I was happily impressed. The smell of vinegar is almost completely removed from the mixture when you let it sit for a few weeks then when you use it any traces of the vinegar smell dissapears completely after it dries.

7. Deodorizing And Bacteria Killing Toilet Bombs by Maria's Self

Alright, I haven't made this yet but I am DYING to! If you look on her website she also lists tons of other uses for these toilet bombs. This is SO creative, and of course I love anything that I can drop into the toilet, clean the rest of the bathroom and then scrub and done.

8. Lean Green Floor Cleaning Machine Solution by A Lovely Mess

I use this when I have company coming over, I LOVE how beautiful it makes my floors and the only thing I would change is adding Lavender essential oil into the mix. It leaves just the right amount of lingering scent.

9. Homemade Oven Cleaner by Couponing To Disney

While this recipe didn't leave my oven *sparkling* clean it did clean better than my old commercial cleaning spray and it didn't gag and choke me, so it's definitely a win-win. Let me know how it works for you!

10. DIY Liquid Hand Soap by One Good Thing by Jillee

Ok, I'm not obsessed with her...ok yes I am. I can't help it though, she comes up with amazing DIY stuff, like this soap. However take this little tip: after you let it sit overnight mix it up with a mixer for a while....it will look like snot (sorry), but after about 15 minutes it'll turn silky smooth, and make your hands super soft!

11. Homemade Fabric Refresher by Northern Cheapskate

I tried to make my own, but I didn't think to use vinegar and mine didn't turn out well. I had a DUH moment when I read this post and promptly made my own batch. It really worked wonders, the the only thing I did different was make one batch her way using Snuggle and another batch with Lavender essential oil for our bedroom and the baby's crib. I LOVE it!

 12. DIY Microfiber Duster by DIY Home Sweet Home

I am SO glad that I learned how to sew, because now I can make this! If you've ever used microfiber cloths you know how well they trap dust and this tutorial on how to make them into a reusable swiffer-like one is perfection! LOVE it!

13. Stainless Steel Cleaner  by Passion For Savings

I don't have that much stainless steel in my house, but what little I do have this recipe made sparkle. Let me know how well it works on larger pieces!

14. DIY Window And Glass Cleaner  by Fabulessly Frugal

OK, I never in a million years would have put cornstarch into a glass cleaning recipe, but thank goodness she did because this stuff is awesome. The best part is so smelly fumes or harsh chemicals!

15. Microfiber Couch Cleaner by Plant Therapy

I do not have microfiber couches, but my brother does and when I found this recipe I sent it straight to him! I also loves that she adds an essential oil blend into her mix ( similar to Spark Natural's Shield Blend ) so the couch is also sanitized as well as cleaned! Great thinking!

16. Leather Couch Cleaner by Fabulessly Frugal

I do not have leather couches either, mainly because I have a toddler who thinks our fabric couch is a jungle gym. So until she learns what no means we're not going this route...anyways..if you DO have leather here is a great DIY cleaner!

17. Homemade Carpet Cleaner by Me!

This was just too easy to make into a blog post, it's 2 cups of baking soda and about 3-4 drops of an essential oil of your choice, mixed and sprinkled onto your carpets. Let the mixture sit for about 10-15 minutes then vacuum up! I also use this mixture on my fabric couch cushions!

The 15 Best: Pampering Edition

1. Eye Makeup Remover by Thrifty and Fabulous
I like this eye makeup remover because she uses olive oil and not baby oil. I've heard A TON of people comment about baby oil irritating their eyes and developing little white dots on them because baby oil isn't meant for eyes. She uses olive oil instead, though I would probably try this one out first with coconut oil.

2. Remove Calluses by Prevention
This just sounds like an awesome treat for your feet never mind the fact that it actually makes your feet look amazing. This is perfect for those spring sandals that are just a few weeks away from being worn!

12. Summer Scrub by Deliciously Organized
Everyone knows the awesome benefits of using a scrub, and this recipe is not only easy, but just from the ingredients you know it's going to smell amazing.

Dessert Pineapple Kabobs

OOHHH YYEEAAHH Kabobs are what's for dinner! BAM!

I thought about posting a recipe for chicken kabobs, but then I realized that it would be the most pointless recipe ever...excluding THIS recipe for ice cubes. First cut chicken, veggies, and pineapples into chunks, then skewer them, grill them, and eat them.

Most people know how to grill kabobs, but what you might not know how to do is grill dessert pineapple. It is amazing people. It's very light, and flavorful plus it has just the right amount of a savory/sweet combination to make people lick their plates clean ( or sticks) ( wait...pretend I didn't say that). I definitely recommend it.

* Pineapple Chunks ( we bought the packages that are fresh cut in the produce section, but I'm sure from a can would be just as good)
* 1 Cup of Brown Sugar
* 1 1/2 Tablespoons of Ground Cinnamon

Add the brown sugar and the cinnamon together in a bowl and whisk them until they are combined. Take the pineapple chunks and coat them heavily in the mixture. We didn't coat ours completely and we were very sorry that we didn't. Get your grill going to about 275 degrees and let those puppies cook for about 25 minutes (we like to grill slowly and let all those flavors really cook together). When the time is up pull them off the grill and enjoy the sugar/cinnamon fruity amazing-ness.

Speaking of food, in case your mind was going blank over what to cook, here are a few recipes that I've found mainly on Pinterest and actually tested out. Most are surprisingly easy and they are all delicious. Happy Tuesday!

St. Patrick's Day Roundup

Decorations!

1. Thrifty Hurricane Tutorial by Two Twenty One
OK when I saw this I fell in love. It is so simple, so easy, and it fits in perfectly with my other Patty's Day decorations.

 2. Shamrock Banner by The Blakes
She doesn't really have a tutorial on how to make this, but she says that she basically cut everything out and hot glued it all together. Seem easy enough, and I love the way the book pages balance out the color so everything isn't overwhelmingly green. By the way, if you do not have a book you want to cut up just hit up Goodwill and pick one up...think of it as breathing new life into something just sitting on a shelf.

3. Ribbon Topiary by Made With These Here Two Hands
I love how cute this looks, and her directions make it seem really easy to make so I'm excited about trying this out out. I love the touches of gold on the bottom too!

Wreaths!

 1. St.Patty's Day Felt Wreath by The Adeventures of Mini-Martha
I think this one is a tiny bit time consuming, but overall super easy, and super cute!

2. St. Patty's Rag Wreath by The Magic of Ordinary Things
I love how this one can be made using scraps that otherwise you might just have thrown out. I also love how she used a dark ribbon to pull all those colors together.

3. St. Patrick's Day Wreath by Sugar and Shimmer
I love this easy idea, but I think if I do decide to try this wreath I'm going to add something in the middle. Maybe a small banner or our initials.

Well there ya go! Lots of ideas to get your St.Patty's day motor running. I'm going to start getting my decorations together this weekend and make my wreath, I'm not sure which one yet...I plan on going into the dollar tree and seeing what jumps out at me. Hope your weekend is an awesome one!
