I thought it was bad before....

Stuff it Rosie....This mommy needs a friggen break...

It's mommy wars people and I am earning a fricken general's badge, or is it Colonel? Which ever one is the highest...I don't know and right now I'm too tired to care.  I told you guys about Hubby leaving for his hunting trip, having my in-laws in, a teething baby going through stranger aversion, and getting sick all in one day well Hubby finally returned yesterday and brought with him a stomach flu. Awesome

Hubby began puking and running to the bathroom and did not stop. He was not awake yesterday for any amount of time other than getting up to vomit and laying back down.all.day.long. He also had a fever, and a wife who is a huge worrier. I was worrying over the baby being sick, then hubby's temp, when this all would break and if I would get sick.

I spent my Monday checking on him, washing my hands, calming the baby down, giving him medicine, washing my hands, trying to distract the baby from the searing pain of her teeth, clean the bathroom, wash my hands, beg the baby to sleep for more than 20 minutes, urge Hubby to drink more water, wash my hands....see where this is going? Did I also mention I'm still sick? Seriously. I'm a good person I think Karma has my name wrong. It's NICKIE not VOLDEMORT!

Blogger Tag Game

Recently I was tagged in a blogger game by The Zookeepers Wife (pretty cool story I def. recommend checking her out) where you basically take these questions, answer them, and pass them on to other bloggers. It's a great way to find new blogs and also get to know eachother. Well...here we go....

1.  Where were you born?
Houma, Louisiana. It was a rainy afternoon and the sweet smell of roses hung in the air. The room was a calming lavender, but the air was filled with electricity....ha just kidding. Although those things could have been true...I have no idea I was too focused on being born and all.
2.  Were you named after someone?
Nickie is actually my nickname that everyone really close calls me.There's much debate over my actual name ( Dominique). Some say a french family member, some a french ex, some say it was just a pretty name they picked out...who knows.
3.  If you have children, how many do you have?
I have one beautiful little baby girl. She will be six months old tomorrow and she has my whole heart for my whole life and then forever after that. We plan on having a second, but not anytime in the near future.
4.  How many pets do you have?
We currently have only two dogs. One is a black mouth curr named Junior and one is a lab mix named Corndog. This is rare for us, we usually are caring for a multitude of animals. Since we have been together we have cared/raised/loved: baby opossums( note that is plural), raccoon, squirrels ( plural again), birds, wild piglets ( two twins and mean as snakes), fish, rabbits, dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, ginnys, and a goat for a very short time( unfortunately). Growing up I also raised ferrets, hamsters, and a kangaroo mouse for a short time. Hubby raised a flying squirrel. Needless to say we like animals.
5.  What was your worst injury?
I would have to say that giving birth would be the hardest thing that I have ever had to recover from. I have never broken anything as a child, the only damage I've done is a sprained ankle. Recovering from a C-Section was very hard, very painful, and something that I was not prepared for.
6.  Do you have a special talent?
Listen you've got to buy me dinner before I show you that...ha just kidding. I can nurture the HECK out of some abandoned animals. As I mentioned before we have nursed and raised quite a few abandoned or hurt animals and I think we're pretty good at it. I also think I'm somewhat talented when it comes to cooking and baking...sometimes.
7.  What's your favorite thing to bake?
Cupcakes. If cupcakes didn't make me fat then I would make and eat them everyday. I literally look for things to celebrate to make batches of cupcakes.

Hydrangea Cupcakes I made last summer

8.  What is your favorite fast food?
I'm more of a Chinese food/TGI Fridays, Applebees, hole-in-the-wall sort of places, but if I had to pick a normal fast food chain I suppose it would be Burger King...or maybe Taco Bell.
9.  Would you bungee jump?
NO. no. no. no. no. I literally freeze up if I'm on a step ladder that is too high. I would die if I bungee jumped. die.
10.  What is the first thing you notice about people?
Actually that would be their stature. I'm very short ( 5"3) and the first thing I notice is how tall or short someone is and if they have larger shoulders or a tiny frame. ( funny piece of info: when I was typing this I accidentally wrote I'm very shart and giggled for about five minutes)
11.  When was the last time you cried?
That would be about five days ago when Hubby left for his hunting trip and I cried like a baby. He picked the wrong time of the month to take this trip so I have been a sobbing mess these past few days. Although on a totally unrelated note I think Ben & Jerry's stock went up a few notches. You are welcome America.
12.  Any current worries?
I call bull on this question because it should have been what are you not worried about. I could write a never ending list about the things that I worry over. I'm a worrier and that's not going to change. I am not worried about my new shirt I bought. There. That's about it
13.  Name three drinks that you drink regularly.

Coffee, Carbonated Water, Sweet Tea
14.  What is your favorite book?
I can't answer this. I really can't. I could give you a long list sorted by genre, but I can't pick a favorite.
15.  Would you like to be a pirate?
No, for the love of God what is appealing about that? Normal pirates do not look like Johnny Depp people. There are no showers on those old ships, the food is horrid, there's no dental or medical I assure you, and plus..I get sea sick. Count me out on this one.

Expectation vs. Reality = No Thanks

16.  What are you favorite smells?
Freshly brewed coffee, lavender, my Hubby, my Munchkin...usually, freshly baked anything, newly cut grass, the smell that the heater makes when you use if after a long time of not using it...I know that might be weird, but you knew what you were getting into.
17.  Why do you blog?
It makes me happy.
18.  What song do you want played at your funeral?
I'm sorry, but I can't answer this one either, I just don't like thinking about it right now, at this point in my life with my little one so new and vulnerable. Plus I don't think it will matter, it's not like I'll be there..you can play party rock anthem for all I care.
19.  What is your least favorite thing about yourself?
I am fairly certain that my self-image is in the negative. I'm not happy with where I am right now when it comes to my weight, but you know what...if that is my biggest issue then I think I'm doing pretty well.
20.  What is your favorite hobby?
Reading, Blogging, Cooking, Writing, Sewing
21.  What do you look for in a friend?
Someone who is not weirded out by my vast knowledge of Harry Potter, and who will shamelessly lick the bowl of batter with me after making brownies. Also humor, honesty, and just being a genuine loyal person. Those are hard to find.
22.  Name something you've done that you never thought you'd do?
Sew, literally I would have laughed in your face if you told me I would enjoy sewing. Also driving in a truck following my mom in a moving van from Louisiana to South Carolina all by lonesome ( 14 hour drive in a beat up truck...can you say learning experience). I also do not follow directions well apparently.
 YUP, I made that keychain

23.  What are your favorite things to do?
Refer back to number 20, and also add watching trash tv, being with my family, cooking with my family, finding shark's teeth by the ocean, and reading by the pool.
24.  Any pet peeves?
One uppers...you know the type of people who no matter what you have done they have done it better with a 30lb pack on their back. When someone forgets to clear the microwave so instead of showing the time it reads however long the timer was opened at.
25.  What's the last thing that made you laugh?
My munchkin yelling and babbling, it cracks me up how vocal and animated she already is.

Really Humans? Really?

When did we get so annoying as a human race? When did we get this notion that we were so superior and that we know what's best for everyone and everything? Yesterday I took my mother-in-law and granny-in-law shopping and the shop was close to the ocean, when we pulled into the parking lot there were a group of tourists surrounding a tree.

My naturally curious mother-in-law went to the tree to see what was going on and she said there was a pelican laying next to it. I got munch in her carseat and followed them over. The pelican was pretty cool, but what was annoying was the fact that the tourists were all freaking out.

" Do you think it's hurt?"
" Why is it here?"
" Does he look normal?"
" Can birds get rabies?"
" Should we feed it?"

I had a look of horror on my face and told them very clearly that no you should not feed it. A man then said it looked like it might need help because it was sitting there and not walking or wanting to eat, and I spoke very slowly and deliberately so he could understand me:

" He is a wild animal. He can feed himself, he is probably resting. Leave him alone."

Then the man gave me a weird look like I was some sort of idiot and asked what pelicans ate and if I thought the bird would take some bread from his hand. I then shook my head and said:

" Ok...yea...sounds like a great idea..hand feed a wild animal, they make great pets."

I then turned my stroller around and began walking towards the shop. The bird was not hurt, he was not in need of any human attention. I just could not believe that these people who were A) Not familiar with these animals at all, and this was the first time probably EVER seeing one up close B) Had no veterinary degrees or medical training were so convinced they knew what was best for this bird. They thought they were entitled to hand feed a wild animal....as if it actually needed our assistance to live. Get over yourself humans!

p.s.- I did not take a picture of the pelicans out of respect.
